"Give us a king to govern us."

A sermon offered on the 2nd Sunday after Pentecost, June 6, 2021, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Roanoke, Alabama.

“From the beginning God has sought relationship with his creation. True relationship cannot be compulsory. Earthly kings require loyalty by force. God offers loyalty built on love. The God of Israel will not use armies to make the people love the Lord. God will not take glee at their failures and defeat. Instead, God is present with them in every moment.”

Principal Text: 1 Samuel 8:4-11, (12-15), 16-20, (11:14-15)
